Bit and The Corn Cob Caper

As you may know, I enjoy putting out different kinds of objects to see how the squirrels react. Often this is large food items – it’s always fun to see them try to carry off their treasures. Bit snagged the corn cob I put out the other day and it was most entertaining to watch what he did with it. Off he ran as I tried to track him first out the window (apologies for the blurry shot through the cobwebs!). Then I saw him try to squeeze through the neighbors fence with his wide load and so I headed outside with my camera to watch him go. Somehow he succeeded in getting it through to the other side before I got out there. Maybe he went up and over!

After snapping a few shots I left him to enjoy his corn, but then was horrified to realize that he had dragged it into the yard where a very fat cat hangs out! Bit is often completely oblivious to his surroundings due to physical injuries (explanations to come) and I feared that he would be easy prey to this cat while preoccupied with his new prize. I am happy to report that Bit was back again today at the feeders so he obviously managed to avoid being the fat cat’s furry toy!

Nate Berkus is Back

Mr. Fantail is a Worrier

I have discovered that of all the squirrels that come to the feeders, Mr. Fantail is the biggest worrier.  Mr. Fantail 612

From time to time I like to rearrange things on the deck just to keep it lively.  Recently I have started adding various objects to make for adorable photo opps or just to see how the squirrels will react.  Every time I change things, Mr. Fantail is hilarious with his reactions to the new objects.  Most of the other squirrels are somewhat cautious when they find new things out there, as they should be, but none seem to get quite as freaked out as Mr. Fantail.   Here is an entertaining video showing him arriving one morning to discover that things have changed – and that there is a new squirrel in town!

Squirrel Gymnastics

Yesterday I witnessed a wonderfully hilarious performance by Gabriella the Squirrel Gymnast. A most impressive routine!

Apologies for the blurry start – it does get better!  Gabriella’s performance began before I could get the video camera properly situated but I managed to catch some amazing moves once I got focused.  Gabriella is quite the performer!

If you enjoy that video, make sure to check out the pics of Nate Berkus the Squirrel Decorator (previous post). Too cute!

The Nate Berkus of Squirrels

Interior Decorator Extraordinaire!

I have been puzzled recently as to how my outdoor pillows keep ending up on the deck floor or otherwise rearranged.  No one has been using the deck in the cold winter months, no guests have been here (no human guests anyway!) … how could this keep happening?

I have finally solved the mystery!  It seems that one of the squirrels, who shall heretofore be named “Nate”, has taken it upon himself to rearrange the pillows from time to time.  I suspect that he may not be the only squirrel interested in changing my decor as I believe I saw little Miss Boo in the pillows recently.

Check out these photos – really adorable and hysterical! Helpful hint:  Just click on the first photo and a slideshow will begin.  Find the x on the slideshow page to close the slideshow.
